Installing Zotero

Zotero is a free reference management software available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It helps researchers collect, organize, manage, and cite research materials efficiently.

For the best experience, install both the Zotero Desktop Application and the Zotero Browser Connector, which is available for Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and other supported browsers.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Visit the official Zotero website: www.zotero.org.

Step 2: Click Register and create a free Zotero account using your name, email address, and password.

Step 3: Verify your email address by clicking the verification link sent to your registered email.

Step 4: Sign in to your Zotero account and click the Download button.

Step 5: Download and install the Zotero Desktop Application for your operating system.

Step 6: Download and install the Zotero Browser Connector for your preferred web browser.

Step 7: Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions:

Click Next.
Accept the default installation settings.
Click Install.
Click Finish after the installation is complete.

Step 8: Open the Zotero Desktop application.

Step 9: Go to Edit → Preferences (Windows/Linux) or Zotero → Preferences (macOS).

Step 10: Select the Sync tab and enter your Zotero account username and password.

Step 11: Click Set Up Syncing. Your Zotero library will now automatically synchronize across all devices where you use the same account.

Important Note

Installing both the Zotero Desktop Application and the Browser Connector enables you to save books, journal articles, web pages, and PDF documents directly into your Zotero library with a single click.

After installation, verify that the Zotero Connector icon appears in your browser toolbar. This indicates that the connector has been installed successfully and is ready to capture references.

Adding Items

Save books, journal articles and websites with one click.
Add references manually using the New Item button.
Review imported metadata before using it.

Creating Bibliographies

Select your references.
Right-click → Create Bibliography.
Choose your citation style.
Copy or export directly to Microsoft Word.

Choose from APA, MLA, Chicago, IEEE, Harvard, Vancouver and thousands of additional citation styles.

In-Text Citations
